COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers pounded out 19 hits to defeat Allen University 20-7 in the first game of their SIAC softball doubleheader on Saturday at King Park.
Allen scored seven runs in the final two innings to take a 13-8 victory in the second game.
Alexis Gatlin went 3-for-5 with six RBIs in the first game. She had a two-run double in the first inning, a three-run single in the fourth inning and an RBI single in the fifth.
Elisha Ramirez went 2-for-4 with three RBIS, while
Shamaria Dupree went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Lady Tigers had a 5-1 lead in the second game, but Allen scored five runs in the third inning to take the lead. Benedict tied the game in the fifth inning when
Taylor Gilbert scored on a passed ball. Allen scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead.
Benedict scored two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 10-8. Allen added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to finish the scoring. Ramirez went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Lady Tigers at the plate.
Benedict, now 11-30 overall and 6-18 in the SIAC, will play a non-conference doubleheader against Livingstone College at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Tiger Field.
