COLUMBIA, S.C. – Livingstone College swept a non-conference softball doubleheader over the Benedict College Lady Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Livingstone scored eight runs in the second inning to take the first game 14-6. Livingstone broke a 7-7 tie with three runs in the eighth inning and went on to take a 10-8 victory in the second game.
Heaven Strickland went 3-for-3 with one RBI in the first game to lead the Lady Tigers at the plate, while also stealing four bases.
In the second game, Benedict took a 4-2 lead with four runs in the second inning.
Jasmine Cadore had an RBI single, and
Taylor Gilbert drove in a pair of runs on a triple. Gilbert scored on a sacrifice bunt by
Elisha Ramirez.
Livingstone tied the game with a pair of runs in the third inning, and took a 7-4 lead with three runs in the fourth. The Lady Tigers scored a pair of runs in the sixth as
Ariah Smith scored on an error and Cadore had a sacrifice fly.
Alaina Harvey hit an RBI double in the seventh inning to tie the game at 7-7 and send the game into extra innings.
In the eighth inning, Livingstone scored three runs on a pair of hits, two walks and a sacrifice fly. Benedict scored one run in the bottom of the eighth on a pair of sacrifice bunts.
Benedict, now 11-32 on the season, will wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Morris College. The Lady Tigers will celebrate Senior Day and honor three seniors.
