Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Tydran Beaty scored 24 points, getting eight high-flying dunks, to lead the Benedict College Tigers to a 73-57 victory over Allen University on Saturday afternoon at the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Tigers struggled in the first half, going 10 minutes without scoring and falling behind by as much as nine points, 28-19 with 2:21 left in the half. But Benedict closed out the first half with eight straight points to cut the lead to 28-27 at the break.
The Tigers kept the momentum to open up the second half, scoring the first nine points, including a dunk by Beaty off an offensive rebound, to take a 36-28 lead and never looked back.
Three straight fast-break dunks by Beaty gave the Tigers a 46-35 lead. A dunk by
Lamar Adkins and a layup by
Xavier Collier gave the Tigers a 50-35 lead with 10:28 to play.
Brennan Reynard had 18 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds for Benedict, now 2-0. Collier added 15 points. Beaty had a game-high 12 rebounds.
After shooting just 38 percent in the first half, Benedict shot 60 percent in the second half.
Richard Johnson led Allen, now 1-7, with 23 points, while Eric Russell added 11 points.
Benedict is at Augusta State on Wednesday.
