Nova Southeastern Edges Benedict, 63-59

Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Benedict College Tigers ended a three-week break with a 63-59 loss to Nova Southeastern University on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Xavier Collier came off the bench to score a game-high 23 points to lead the Tigers, who dropped to 4-4 on the season.

The Tigers had an eight-point lead in the first half, 24-16, after a 3-pointer by Rickie Jackson. The Sharks took a one-point lead at the halftime break, 28-27, after a 3-pointer by Stian Berg.

Benedict pulled ahead 44-38 with 9:52 to play on a jumper by Lamar Adkins, but Nova Southeastern tied the game at 44 on a pair of free throws by Iran Hollis with 7:24 to play.

Nova Southeastern had a one-point lead with three minutes to play after two free throws by Collier, when the Sharks got a layup by Hollis and two free throws by Justin Jeangerard for a 58-53 lead with 1:43 to play.

The Tigers got the lead to one point, 58-57, on a layup by Brennan Reynard with one minute to play, but the Sharks pushed the lead back to three points on two free throws by Berg. Collier cut the lead back to one point with two free throws with 13 seconds left, but the Sharks got a three-point play on a fastbreak layup by Brian Cahill and free throw with nine seconds left for the final score.

Hollis led the Sharks, 6-3, with 15 points, while Cahill added 14 points.

Benedict opens SIAC play on Thursday, traveling to face Stillman at 7:30 p.m.
