Tigers Start FastTo Put Away LeMoyne-Owen, 70-51

Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. – Playing their first home game in more than a month, the Benedict College Tigers gave the fans a treat with a dominating 70-51 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.

Tydran Beaty, Marcus Goode and Rickie Jackson all scored 14 points each to lead the Tigers, who improved to 2-1 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 6-5 overall.

The Tigers opened the game with a crowd-cheering ally-oop dunk by Beaty from Xavier Collier, and the Tigers jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead. After the Magicians cut the lead to 11-7, the Tigers scored 14 unanswered points to take a 25-7 lead with Beaty scoring eight points in that stretch, including a pair of spectacular dunks.

Benedict had as much as a 21-point lead in the first half, and took a 43-26 lead into the locker room. The Tigers maintained the double-digit lead throughout the second half, building the lead to as much as 26 points, 67-41, on a jumper by Brennan Reynard with 4:21 left to play.

The Tigers had 10 steals and forced 14 LeMoyne-Owen turnovers. Benedict scored 21 points off those turnovers.

Benedict held the Magicians to 38.8 percent shooting (19-of-49). Edwin Shorter led the Magicians (1-2 SIAC, 3-9) with 14 points.

Benedict is back in action on Thursday, playing host to Lane College.
