Lady Tigers Advance To SIAC Championship

ATLANTA, Ga. – The third-seeded Benedict College women's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to stun No. 2 Clark Atlanta with a 5-2 victory to advance to the 2013 SIAC Tennis Championship game against No. 1 Stillman College.

Clark Atlanta took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Jessica Carswell and Keneisha Whittington won at No. 3 doubles.

Benedict's Glory Zhou took a narrow 7-6-7-5 win over Clark Atlanta's Vonnick Boyogueno at No. 1 singles. Benedict then had two tough come-from-behind victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. ). Chloe Jean-Charles needed three sets, (4-6, 7-5,6-3) to defeat Vanessa Jean-Baptist at the No.2 position, which was followed by Esther Zalaya's victory over Brione Bachus (5-4, 7-5, 6-4) in a highly contested No. 3 singles battle.

Jessica Carswell punched the Lady Tigers ticket to the title match with a straight set victory over Asia Boyd to conclude the match.

Benedict will face Stillman in the championship on Saturday.
