Jasmine Stubbs and
Jessica Ellison each hit seven 3-pointers to lead Benedict College to a 68-63 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College on Tuesday in an SIAC contest.
Benedict rallied back from a nine-point deficit with five minutes left to play. The Lady Magicians held a 59-50 lead after a three-point play by Latrice Sears. The Lady Tigers then hit four 3-pointers in a row to take a 62-59 lead with 2:34 left to play. Ellison hit two in a row, followed by
Santera Grooms and one by Stubbs.
LeMoyne-Owen cut the lead to 64-63 on a free throw by Sears. Grooms hit a jumper on the other end for a 66-63 lead with 28 seconds left. Stubbs sealed the win with a pair of free throws with five seconds left.
Stubbs finished with 25 points, while Ellison scored a season-high 21 points, making 7-of-13 3-point attempts.
Maya Nelson had 10 rebounds, while
Amanda Toliver had 10 assists.
Benedict improved to 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the SIAC.
Sears led LeMoyne-Owen with 21 points. The Lady Magicians fell to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in the SIAC.
Benedict continues its road trip with a contest at Lane College on Thursday. The women's game will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
