JACKSON, Tenn. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers will take on the University of West Florida in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern.

The Lady Tigers are 23-6 and received an at-large invitation to the NCAA Tournament after finishing as regular season champions of the SIAC and runners-up in the SIAC Tournament. Benedict is the fifth seed in the eight-team South Region Tournament, held on the campus of Union University in Jackson, Tenn.

West Florida is 19-8 and the fourth seed. The Argonauts were the second seed in the Gulf South Conference women's tournament, but lost in the quarterfinals to Shorter. West Florida is led by freshman forward Toni Brewer, who was named the GSC Freshman of the Year and was named to the Daktronics All-Region team. She averages 12.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.

Benedict is led by forward Kristine Lesane and center Britenique Harrison. Lesane was named to the SIAC All-Conference team, while Harrison was named honorable mention All-Conference and was named to the SIAC All-Tournament team. Benedict leads NCAA Division II in rebounding margin, outrebounding opponents by an average of 11.8 per game.

The winner of the Benedict and West Florida contest will advance to play the winner between top seed Union and eight seed Albany State on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern.
