COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's tennis team opened the 2017 season on Friday with a 5-4 victory over Southern Wesleyan.
Benedict earned two forfeit victories, but still trailed 4-3 with the final two matches on the court. Benedict won the final two matches to earn the victory.
No. 1 singles player Karla Flores defeated Aimee Dorley 6-3, 6-3, while Danyelle Copeland defeated Elizabeth Molkey 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
The Lady Tigers also picked up a win at No. 2 doubles with Copeland and Daniella Rios defeating Jennifer Ball and Chyna Jones, 8-5.
The women's team is back in action on Sunday, traveling to take on Converse College in Spartanburg at 2 p.m. Benedict returns home to face Augusta University on Tuesday at Southeast Park at 2 p.m.
