Benedict Women's Tennis Team Falls To Augusta

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Augusta University on Tuesday at Southeast Park.

The Lady Tigers were missing two of their top players, who were out sick. Playing shorthanded and shuffling the lineup, Benedict gave away three forfeited points before the match started.

Benedict picked up a win at No. 1 doubles where Danyelle Copeland and Daniella Rios defeated Alejandra Gonzalez Arranz and Merye Gobernate, 8-6. Copeland moved up to No. 1 singles on the day and lost a close match, falling 7-4 in the tiebreaker after the pro set was tied 8-8.

Benedict falls to 2-1. Augusta improves to 3-0.

The Lady Tigers will play matches against USC Sumter, The Citadel and Coker on Friday in Sumter and a rematch against The Citadel on Saturday in Sumter.
