COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's tennis team remained unbeaten in conference action with three victories on Friday during the second day of the SIAC Tennis Roundup.
Benedict cruised to a quick 5-0 victory over LeMoyne-Owen in the morning, then topped Clark Atlanta 6-3 in a rematch of last year's SIAC Tournament Championship. The Lady Tigers blanked Lane College 8-0 in the final match of the day.
The key match of the day was against Clark Atlanta. Benedict took a 2-1 lead after doubles action.
Daniella Rios and
Caroline Nguy took an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while
Karla Flores and
Viktoria Izakova also won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Benedict won the top three matches in singles play, with Nguy winning 6-3, 6-0. Flores took a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 2 and Izakova claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 3 to clinch the match for the Lady Tigers.
Benedict, now 8-3 overall and 6-0 in the SIAC, wraps up roundup action on Saturday morning with a match against Tuskegee at 9 a.m. at the Columbia Tennis Center.
