Benedict's Daniel Named SIAC Softball Player Of The Year; Dargan Named All-Conference

ALBANY, Ga. – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced its 2019 softball all-conference awards, as voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors. Benedict's Starkeira Daniel headlines the all-conference team after being selected as the 2019 SIAC Player of the Year. Outfielder Erika Dargan was also named to the first team.

Spring Hill's Hannah Brenton was named 2019 Starting Pitcher of the Year. Kentucky State's Katelyn Hurley earned this year's Relief Pitcher of the Year honor. Tuskegee's Myracle Hawkins was selected as the 2019 SIAC Freshman of the Year along with Clark Atlanta's Tatianna Kelly who was named Utility Player of the Year. Spring Hill's head coach, Steve Kittrell, has been named 2019 SIAC Coach of the Year.

Daniel earned the league's highest honor after leading the Lady Tigers to a second-place regular season finish in conference and leading the conference with a .495 batting average, which ranks sixth nationally in Division II. She also led the SIAC in RBIs per game with 1.31, which ranks second nationally. Her slugging percentage of .972 led the SIAC and ranks fourth nationally. The Ellenwood, Ga. native appeared in all 36 games for Benedict as she finished the season leading her team in runs (47), hits (53), doubles (14), triples (5), home runs (9), and RBIs (58) this season. She led the SIAC in on-base percentage (.552), which ranked 14th nationally.

Dargan, a senior outfielder, hit .326 on the season with five home runs and 32 RBIs. She had a .653 slugging percentage, which ranked seventh in the SIAC. She also ranks sixth in stolen bases.
