Tigers Look To Bounce Back Against Morehouse

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers are looking to bounce back from a loss suffered on Wednesday night when they host Morehouse College Saturday at 3 p.m. in the HRC Arena.

Benedict fell to Bluefield State College on the road, 89-79, a loss largely attributed to getting outscored by 22 points in the first half (55-33). Although the Tigers are coming off a tough loss, the recent adversity has not caused Assistant Coach Phil Jackson to lose perspective or overlook the positives that have been occurring.

"We're steadily showing improvement and trying to get all of our guys healthy as we prepare to finish the conference schedule strong this second semester," Jackson said. "The guys are starting to gel and peak at the right time, which is what we envisioned at this point in the season. We have the individual talent, now it's just making sure everyone believes in the vision of the team."

Morehouse is currently holding a 7-8 record and has lost three straight, falling to Miles College (70-49), Lemoyne-Owen College (74-69), and Albany State University (80-72). The Maroon Tigers currently rank 35th in the nation in steals per game (8.7), 80th in the nation in assists per game (15.1), and are second in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) in offensive rebounds per game (13.40), one spot behind the Tigers who lead the conference in this category (13.44).

Morehouse has two players in senior guard Robert Andrews and sophomore guard Malik Kennedy averaging double-figure points, with Andrews putting up 12.3 points per game and 7 rebounds per game on the year.

The Tigers historically have held the advantage over Morehouse College. Since 2003, Benedict holds a 25-10 record against the Maroon Tigers including a 17-game win streak from 2004 to 2012.

Morehouse did get the best of Benedict in their last meeting, defeating the Tigers 85-70 at the end of last season. In that game, the Tigers were outshot 51.7 percent to 19-49 38.8 percent. A win Saturday will place Benedict (4-4 in the SIAC) one game over .500 in conference play.
