Lady Tigers Face Fayetteville State For First Time

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers look to stay hot as they travel to Fayetteville State University for one final road match Saturday at 2 p.m. before returning to the HRC Arena for a two game home stand.

Benedict is coming off of an 80-61 victory over Allen University on Monday night. The Lady Tigers have won nine straight and 12 out of their last 13.

Fayetteville State currently holds a 9-7 record and is riding a four-game winning streak. The Broncos rank ninth in the nation in three-point field goal percentage (39.1 percent), first in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in assist to turnover ratio (0.76), and first in the CIAA in blocked shots per game (3.3).

Fayetteville State is led by senior guard Katisha Hyman, who is averaging 18 points per game on 45 percent shooting from the 3-points line and has been a terror on the defensive end averaging 2.8 steals per game. Hyman is coming off of an 18 point, five assist performance on Monday against Bowie State. Back on November 9th, Hyman put up a season-high 35 points, knocking down six 3-point shots in the process. Senior guard Shantel Bennett (10.9) and junior forward Aminata Johnson (10.3) also average in double figures for the Broncos on the season.

This will mark the first meeting between the Lady Tigers and Lady Broncos since prior to the 2002-03 season.
