Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday at the SIAC tennis roundup, defeating LeMoyne-Owen College 6-0 and Clark Atlanta University 5-2 at the Richland County Tennis Center.
The Lady Tigers improved to 5-2 overall and 5-0 in the SIAC. Benedict's other match against Spring Hill was postponed and will be made up at a later date.
Benedict won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, with LeMoyne-Owen defaulting at No. 3 for the doubles point.
In singles action, the Lady Tigers dropped just one game, winning four of the five matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Against Clark Atlanta, Benedict took a 1-0 lead after doubles play by winning two of the three matches.
Beverly Matsiwe and
Karina Izakova won a hard-fought 7-5 match at No. 2 doubles. In singles play, Benedict won three of the matches in tiebreakers.
Catina Gamo won a 1-6, 6-2, 10-3 victory at No. 2 singles.
Olivia Simms won 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 victory at No. 5 singles.
Gabriela Zelaya won 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 at No. 6 singles.
Benedict is scheduled to play Augusta on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Richland County Tennis Center.
