Tigers To Face LeMoyne-Owen In SIAC Men's Basketball Tournament

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Benedict College men's basketball team is seeded fifth in the SIAC East Division and will face LeMoyne-Owen College, the fourth seed from the West Division, in the first round of the SIAC Basketball Tournament.

The SIAC released the official brackets, with the Benedict vs. LeMoyne-Owen game tipping off at 5:45 p.m. on Monday at the Rock Hill Sports & Events Center.

The Tigers finished the regular season with a 13-15 overall record and 9-10 in the SIAC. LeMoyne-Owen finished 12-13 overall and 7-11 in the SIAC. In their only meeting this season, the Tigers defeated the Magicians 87-74 on Dec. 2 in Columbia. Deon Joyner led the Tigers in that contest with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Tajh Green added 20 points and 11 rebounds. For the season, Green leads Benedict, averaging 14 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Joyner adds 13.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

For the Magicians, Tyrone Banks Jr. leads the team with 16.5 points per game, eighth best in the SIAC. Devin Booker adds 13.3 points per game. Banks scored 21 points against the Tigers, while Booker added 16.

The winner of Monday's game advances to face Albany State, the top seed from the East Division, at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner of that contest will advance to a semifinal contest at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. The men's championship game is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Daily general admission tickets are $10. Tickets for Saturday's championship contest are $20. An all-tournament pass is $50. Youths 18 and under will be admitted free. SIAC students will be admitted free with their student ID. Tickets can be purchased online here.
