COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's track & field team competed at the Gamecock Invitational on Saturday, winning two events and getting an NCAA automatic qualifier.
Shemar Miller jumped a personal-best mark of 15.76 meters (51 feet, 8 ½ inches), which was an NCAA automatic qualifying mark. That mark is also currently the best in the nation in Division II. Miller also won the men's long jump event with a jump of 7.43 meters (24 feet, 4 inches).
Bryce Ravenell finished fifth in the long jump with a personal-best jump of 6.91 meters (22 feet, 8 inches). He also finished seventh in the high jump with a jump of 1.95 meters (6 feet, 4 inches).
Caleb Vance hit a personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.55 meters (133 feet).
On the track,
Kelvin Tillman ran a season-best time of 10.66 in the 100-meter dash.
Lirante Jackson ran a season-best time of 21.64 in the 200-meter dash and 50.39 in the 400-meter dash.
Philip Jackson ran a personal-best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.84.
Kevin Francis finished 22nd overall in the 110-meter high hurdles with a season-best time of 15.43. He also ran 57.24 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Malcom Carter Jr. finished 14th overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.19. He also ran the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.87.
Devonta Newbold ran a season-best in the 800-meter run with a 1:59.22. He finished 10th overall.

Lirante Jackson finished eighth with a time of 3:22.44.
Benedict will wrap up the spring season at the USC Open meet on April 17.
