COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's indoor track & field team competed at the USC Indoor Open at the South Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex, and had some exceptional performances and set one school record.
Eilika Lane had another outstanding performance. She ran a personal-best time of 7.77 in a qualifying round of the women's 60-meter dash, then topped that with a 7.73 in the preliminaries. She finished ninth overall. She also finished ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.0. She is ranked 31
st in the nation in the 400-meter event and No. 1 in the South Region.
The distance team fared well with
Jane Kiborus running a personal-best time of 11:11.75 in the 3,000-meter run, finishing sixth.
Floma Okumu also ran a personal-best time of 11:47.35 in the 3,000-meter run. She finished ninth overall.
Naila Harris ran a season-best time of 2:38 in the 800-meter run to finish 20th overall.
Savionna Glover jumped a season-best 5.63 meters (18 feet 5 ¾ inches) in the long jump. She is currently rank second in the South Region in the Long Jump and fifth in the triple jump. She also ran in the 60-meter dash, finishing 15
th with a time of 7.80.
Kyra Buffen jumped 5.28 meters (16 feet, 10 inches) in the long jump to finish 10th overall. She is currently ranked 14th in the South region.
Jada David finished eighth overall with a jump of 10.89 meters (35 feet, 8 inches) in the triple jump. She is currently ranked eighth in the South Region. DaNaya Wray finished 14th overall with a jump of 10.57 meters (34 feet, 8 inches) in the triple jump. She is currently ranked 11th in the South Region.
The hurdlers were led by
Santiona Freeman, who finished 12th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.04. She is ranked fourth in the South Region.
Kaciann Cowan finished 18th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.60. She is currently ranked 11th in the region.
Shamia Colden-Burson finished 17th overall in the weight throw of 12.62 meters (41 feet, 5 inches). She is currently ranked 15th in the South Region.
Paris Stanton finished 10th overall in the shot put with a mark of 12.11 meters (39 feet, 8 inches), setting a school record. She is ranked sixth in the region.
The women's 4 x 400-meter relay team of Lane, Jordan,
Charity Williams and
Angel Johnson finished fourth overall with a time of 4:03. That team is currently ranked sixth in the region.
The Tigers will open their outdoor part of their schedule on March 5 at the Savannah State Relays.
