MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Benedict College women's outdoor track & field team finished fourth overall out of 25 teams competing at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge, despite running in cold and unfavorable weather.
Kassie Jordan won the women's 400-meter dash in a crowded field of 50 runners with a time of 1:00.47.
Shantel Williams finished fourth overall in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 13.54, despite suffering a minor injury and running in extreme weather. She entered the finals as the favorite after winning her heat preliminaries with a time of 12.66, and winning the semi-final heat with a time of 12.71, running into a wind.
Jada David finished sixth the 400-meter hurdles event with a time of 1:09.83.
Kanesha Moses finished eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.33.
The jump squad was led by
Savionna Glover, who finished second in the long jump with a season best jump of 5.59 meters (18 feet, 4. ½ inches), and
Kyra Buffen, who jumped 5.29 meters (17 feet, 4.1/4 inches) to finish seventh in the event. They did not contest the triple jump due to weather.
Aanya Howard jumped 1.48 meters (4 feet, 10 ¼ inches) in the high jump to finish fourth. She also competed in the javelin throw with a throw of 17.89 meters (58 feet, 8 inches).
Kristion Jeffries finished eighth in the high jump with a jump of 1.43 meters (4 feet, 8 inches).
The hurdlers were led by
Santiona Freeman, who won her 100-meter hurdles preliminary round heat with a time of 15.19. She finished second in the finals with a time of 15.99. She also finished 10th in the long jump with a jump of 4.89 meters (16 feet, ½ inch).
Sinia Massillon finished second in her 100-meter hurdles heat with personal-best time of 16.46. She also finished fifth overall in 400-meter hurdles with a season best time of 1:12.59.
Jada David finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.62.
Paris Stanton finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 11.80 meters (38 feet, 8 inches). She also threw 31.84 meters (104 feet, 5 inches) in the hammer throw to finish fifth.
The distance runners were led by
Jane Kiborus, who ran a personal best in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 41:47.21 to finish third. She also ran a personal best in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:19.01.
Floma Okumu also ran a personal best in the 10,000-meter run, finishing sixth with a time of 45:55.40. She also ran a personal best in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:42.70.
Lydia Kosgei ran a personal best time of 50:14.17 in the 10,000-meter run to finish seventh.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of
Savionna Glover,
Charity Williams,
Shantel Williams, and
Kassie Jordan finished fourth with a time of 50.24.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the Charlotte 49er Classic.
