COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Benedict College women's indoor track and field team was back in action this weekend at the Carolina Challenge held at the University of South Carolina indoor facility. The Tigers made a statement in their second meet of the season with several breakthrough performances.

Santiona Freeman set the tone with a personal record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.99, and advanced her to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles, where she finished 18
th overall and the top finisher not from a Division I or professional team.

Jada David finished in sixth place in the elite triple jump competition against all Division I competitors with a jump of 11.34 meters (37 feet, 2 ½ inches), and ran a leg on winning 4x400-meter relay team. Other members of the team were
Kassie Jordan,
Megan Thompson and
Kanesha Moses as the team clocked a time of 4:01.24.

Janae Johnson also had a personal record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.99.
Sinia Massillon also had a personal record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 10.24.

Kassie Jordan finished 15
th in the women's 400-meter with a time of 59.27.
Torianne Noad ran a personal best 59.98 in the women's 400-meter, finishing 19
th overall.

Cavel Barnett had a personal record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:41.

"This team is everything Coach (Frank) Hyland said it was," said coach Danny Brooks in his Benedict coaching debut. "What an outstanding start to 2023. Each events group had both personal best and season best performances. I look forward to the next meet."

The Lady Tigers will be back in action on Feb. 3-4 in the South Carolina Invitational at the USC indoor facility.
