SAVANNAH, GA. – Benedict College senior forward Malachi McCoy has been named the 2023-24 SIAC Men's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year, the SIAC announced Wednesday at their media day.
 
The Tigers, who return the bulk of their lineup from last year's tournament runner-up squad, were also picked to finish first in the SIAC East.
 
McCoy finished second in the SIAC in rebounding last season, averaging 8.6 per game, while averaging 10.3 points per game. He also led the SIAC in field goal percentage, shooting .622 from the floor.
 
Along with McCoy, Asanti Price was named to the preseason All-Conference first team, while Brandon Smith was named to the second team.
 
The Tigers open the 2023-24 season on Nov. 11, taking on Eckerd College in the SSC/SIAC Crossover Classic, hosted by the University of Tampa in Tampa, Fla.
