COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Benedict College men's indoor track & field team was back in action this weekend at the South Carolina Invitational held at the University of South Carolina Indoor facility. The Tigers made a statement in their third meet of the season with several breakthrough performances. The teams produced an astonishing 29 personal records, several season best performances and three new school records.
Shemar Miller smashed the Benedict school record in the triple jump with a phenomenal jump of 15.54 meters, winning the highly competitive elite jumps group.
That performance was followed up with
Sergio White setting a new record in the men's 300 meters with a time of 35.41.
Kelvin Tillman also ran a personal best record of 6.93 to finish seventh in the 60-meter dash, while
Romel Russell finished with a time of 7.08.
Kevin Francis kept it going with a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.37.
Matthew Paul got a new personal record in the 400 meters with a time of 49.72.
Not to be outdone,
Ryusei Takahashi set a new personal record in the mile with a time of 4:59.
With a top tier performance,
Chase Ransom threw 13.24 meters (47 feet, 5 ¼ inches) in the shot put.
Caleb Vance threw 12.76 meters (41 feet, 10 ¼ inches) in the shot put and Jacob Darby threw 12.60 meters (41 feet, 4 inches) in the shot put and 10.83 meters (35 feet, 6 ½ inches) in the weight throw.
Markel Bryant and
Morris Walker set new personal records as well.
Romel Russell set a new personal record in the 200 meters with a time of 22.50.
The men's 4 x 400-meter relay team, consisting of
Javel Best,
Matthew Paul,
Makel Bridges and
Sergio White, finished off a star-studded weekend with a time of 3:30.99.
Benedict will return to the track on Feb. 17 to compete in the USC Indoor Invitational.
