TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Benedict College rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit to take a one-point lead, but Tuskegee scored the next seven points and held on for a 52-46 SIAC men's basketball victory on Saturday.
Tuskegee held a 24-15 lead at the half, and increased the lead to 12 points on a 3-pointer to open the second half. The Tigers stormed back with a nine-point run to cut the lead to 27-24 after a fast-break dunk by
Jamian Jackson.
Benedict then stayed within striking distance for most of the second half, and used an 8-2 to take their first lead of the game, 39-38, on a fast-break layup by
Malachi Chavis with 4:35 left in the game. A pair of free throws by
Caleb Hymon gave Benedict a 41-39 lead with 3:25 left to play.
Tuskegee (6-2 overall, 5-0 SIAC) scored the next seven points to take a 46-41 lead with 1:47 remaining and held on for the victory.
Hymon led the Tigers with 14 points.
Tareeq Anderson added eight points and grabbed a season-high seven rebounds.
Benedict, now 3-3 overall and 3-3 in the SIAC, returns home for a pair of games before the holiday break. The Tigers will take on Spring Hill at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and then host Albany State on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
