LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Benedict College men's and women's indoor track & field teams finished in second place in the first-ever SIAC Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
The men's team scored 115.2 points to finish behind champion Morehouse (186.7 points). Tuskegee was third with 91 points.
The women's team scored 129 points, finishing behind champion Tuskegee (242.5 points). Central State finished third with 115 points.
For the men,
Darian Clarke won the 200-meter dash with a personal-record time of 21.32, which is currently the 18
th-fastest time in Division II. Clarke also set a personal record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.82, finishing second.
Zack Washington won two more events of the championship. After winning the long jump on Thursday, he won the high jump with a jump of 2.05 meters (6 feet, 8 ¾ inches) and the triple jump with a jump of 14.57 meters (47 feet, 9 ¾ inches) on Friday. Washington was named the men's Field Performer of the Year.
Matthew Paul won the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 48.32.
Some other noteworthy performances on Friday were:
- Chase Ransom finished fourth in the shot put (14.04 meters, 46 feet, ¾ inch).
- The 4x400-meter relay team of Javel Best, Paul, Terrel Alexander and Jesaiah Jones finished second with a season-best time of 3:15.40., the 30th-fastest time in Division II.
- Sadiki Marsh finished second in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 1:56.85.
- Jacobie Sims finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-record time of 8.37.
The Lady Tigers were led by
Yassmine Chambers, who won the shot put with a mark of 12.55 meters (41 feet, 2 ¼ inches); and
Jada David, who won the triple jump with a season-best jump of 12.02 meters (39 feet, 5 ¼ inches), which is the 18
th-best mark in Division II. Chambers was named the women's Field Performer of the Year.
Some other noteworthy performances for the women were:
- Santiona Freeman finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 8.88.
- Anaiya Houseal finished third in the pentathlon, scoring 2,514 points in the five events.
