COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's outdoor track and field team stands in fourth place after the first day of the 2025 Cricket SIAC Championship, held at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
Wednesday's first day saw finals in three events – the women's hammer throw, the long jump and the 10,000-meter run. Tuskegee leads the women's standings with 23 points, followed by Fort Valley State with 18 points and Albany State with 16 points. Benedict has 15 points, while Clark Atlanta and Allen are tied for fifth with 13 points each. Edward Waters is seventh with 12 points, followed by Lane with five points and Central State with two points.
Paris Stanton finished third in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.57 meters (156 feet,1 inch).
Yassmine Chambers also scored in the hammer throw, finishing seventh with a mark of 38.56 meters (126 feet, 6 inches).
Jada David finished third in the long jump with a jump of 5.28 meters (17 feet, 3 ¾ inches).
Anaiya Houseal also scored, finishing eighth with a jump of 4.98 meters (16 feet, 1 inch).
Benedict did not score in the 10,000-meter run. The top finisher in that event for the Lady Tigers was
Mercy Kwambai, who finished 10
th with a time of 50:41.73.
The championship will continue Thursday, with finals in the shot put, triple jump, discus throw, pole vault, and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Preliminary heats will be held in the 100-meter hurdles, 1,500-meter run, 400-meter dash, the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay.
