Rain Washes Out Thursday's SIAC Track Championship; Benedict Men Remain In First

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's outdoor track and field team remains in first place after a washed-out second day of competition in the 2025 Cricket SIAC Championship at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track at the University of South Carolina on Thursday.

The only men's event that was completed on Thursday was the men's long jump, which was suspended from Wednesday. Benedict's Zack Washington won the event with a jump of 7.29 meters (23 feet, 11 inches).

Those 10 points for first place gave the Tigers 35 total points. Morehouse is currently second with 23 points, followed by Albany State in third with 13 points and Fort Valley State in fourth with 12 points.

The Benedict College women's outdoor track and field team is in fourth.

Thursday saw the women complete just one event – the heptathlon. Benedict did not score in the event.

Tuskegee leads the women's standings with 46 points, followed by Fort Valley State with 23 points. Albany State is third with 16 points, with Benedict one point behind with 15 points. Clark Atlanta and Allen are tied for fifth with 14 points.

Rain and lightning cancelled the days schedule of events, forcing an adjustment to Friday's schedule. Friday's events will begin at 7 a.m., with the men finishing the final two events (javelin and 1,500-meter run) of the decathlon. Running events start at 10 a.m. The day's final event is scheduled to be the women's 4x400-meter relay at 6:15 p.m.

Admission tickets can be purchased at www.benedicttickets.com.
