COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Zack Washington repeated as conference champion in the men's long jump and
DuShaun Tucker won the men's hammer throw as the Benedict Tigers stand in second place after the first day of the 2026 SIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, presented by Toyota, on Tuesday at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
Washington had a jump of 7.59 meters (24 feet, 10 ¾ inches) on his fourth jump of the day. Benedict's
Jayden Slaughter finished sixth in the long jump to add three points for the Tigers' team score with a jump of 6.76 meters (22 feet, 2 ¼ inches).

Tucker won the hammer throw with a throw of 49.92 meters (163 feet, 9 inches) on his sixth and final throw of the day.
Those three finishes gave the Tigers 23 total points, good enough to stand in second place after Day One. Allen University leads after the first day with 27 points.
In the preliminary running events on Tuesday,
Jacobie Sims had the fastest time of the day in the 400-meter hurdles with a 53.71.
Terrel Alexander advanced to the finals of the 200-meter dash with the third-fastest time of the day – 21.44.
The championship will continue with Day Two on Wednesday, with medal events in the decathlon, shot put, pole vault, triple jump, discus, and the steeplechase, with preliminary heats in the 110-meter hurdles, 1,500-meter run, 400-meter dash, 100-meter dash, and 4x400-meter relay.
