MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Benedict College sophomore outfielder
Jaquez Akins was named the MVP of the second annual Minority Baseball Prospects Final College Showdown all-star game on Friday night.
Akins hit the game-winning single to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the SIAC All-Stars a 10-9 victory over the HBCUAC All-Stars, in a game played at Paterson Field.
Akins went 2-for-3 in the contest, with a pair of singles. He scored two runs and drove in one run.
The contest featured an all-star team composed of players from the SIAC against an all-star team composed of players from the NAIA HBCU Athletic Conference.
Akins was a second-team All-SIAC outfielder this season. He hit .378 with 37 RBIs and scored 57 runs.
