Box Score MACON, Ga. – In a contest that didn't finish until after 1:30 a.m., the Benedict College baseball team was knocked out of the 2026 SIAC Baseball Championship, falling to Morehouse College 15-11.
Morehouse scored eight runs in the fifth inning to take a 12-10 lead and never relinquished it to advance to face Spring Hill College in the final contest of the loser bracket on Monday afternoon. The winner of that game will take on Edward Waters, the only unbeaten team remaining in the tournament, for the championship.
Benedict ends its season after a memorable push in the championship tournament with a 23-13 record.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run by
Joshua Medina. Morehouse answered with three runs in the bottom of the second.
Benedict regained the lead with a seven-run third inning.
Christopher Trujillo Ruiz led off the inning with a double, and
Jonathan Olmedo followed with a single. Both later scored on a fielder's choice and Morehouse error to tie the game.
Kent Johnson scored on a passed ball, and
Kenyan Conner Jr. delivered an RBI single. With the bases loaded,
Lewis Brown was hit by a pitch, and Ruiz followed with a bases-loaded walk. Johnson drew another bases-loaded walk to make it 8-3.
Cameron Haley hit a two-run homer in the fourth to make it 10-3.
Morehouse scored a single run in the fourth inning before their big fifth inning, when they scored eight runs on five hits to take a 12-10 lead.
Colin Jones drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning to cut the lead to 12-11. In the bottom of the eighth, Morehouse added three more runs on just one hit, a two-run single, to take a 15-11 lead.
Benedict had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, but a groundout ended the game.
Benedict had just six hits in the game – with two home runs and two doubles. The Tigers drew 15 walks and had five hit batters.
