Box Score MORROW, Ga. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers had a four-point halftime lead, but scored just 17 second-half points as the fourth-ranked Clayton State Lakers took a 75-54 victory in the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic on Saturday.
Benedict dropped to 3-8 on the season with its third straight loss. Clayton State improved to 8-0.
The Lady Tigers took a 37-33 lead at the half, thanks to eight points each from
London Richardson and
Monique Weathers.
Clayton State opened the game by scoring the first seven points, but Benedict rallied back with a 13-4 run to take a 15-11 lead. Benedict built as much as a nine-point first-half lead before Clayton State cut the lead to 37-33 at the break.
The Lakers took the lead on a 3-pointer by Jessica Covington with 16:01 left in the second half, which was the start of a 27-2 run for Clayton State. Benedict shot just 19 percent in the second half, including 13 percent (2-for-13) on 3-pointers.
Weathers led Benedict with 14 points, while Richardson finished with 10.
Maya Nelson finished with 10 rebounds.
Benedict will face Lander on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
