FAIRFIELD, AL –
Christopher Lail pitched a strong five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, to lead the Benedict College Tigers to a 5-4 victory over Miles College in game one of a doubleheader.
Christopher Moye' scored the only run for the Tigers in game two as they were defeated by Miles College 14-1.
The Tigers would start fast in game one as
Michael Jordan and Elisha Mcdaniel began the game with two singles. They would then double steal, and score later in the inning on consecutive bases loaded walks to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Miles would cut into the lead plating a run in the bottom half of the inning.
The Tigers would strike again in the top of the fourth as
Lamar Lewis who hit a double and scored on a two-base error. Jordan would then walk, steal, and later score on a
David Weber RBI double.
Andre Collum would single, steal second and third, and score after a wild throw from the catcher on his steal of third in the top of the fifth inning. Miles would tack on a run in the bottom of the fifth making it a 5-2 ballgame.
Miles would add on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning making it a tight 5-4 game going into the last inning.
Michael Jordan would pitch the seventh inning and pick up his second save of the season. Lail also picked up his second win of the season as well.
In game two the Tigers went down quick as Miles scored four runs in the first inning off of starter
Luis Cotto. He would then be replaced with
Brandon Pengilley, who walked and hit a batter with the bases loaded before he was also replaced. Weber would then take the mound and finally get the Tigers out of the jam.
Miles would strike again in the third inning as they added five more runs capped by a two-run home run by Kelend Smith off of
Lamar Lewis. The Tigers' bats would never get going this game as they would be defeated in five innings 14-1.
The Tigers will play the last game of this three game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
