Box Score
COLUMBIA, S.C. -— John Walton pitched a complete game, giving up three runs and striking out five batters, but it wasn't enough as Kentucky State University took a 3-2 victory on Sunday to claim the weekend series.

Lashante Grimes knocked in the Tigers' only two runs of the game.

Benedict fell to 17-7 on the season and 8-4 in the SIAC. Kentucky State moved to 6-16 overall and 5-7 in the SIAC.

Kentucky State University jumped on the board with two runs on two hits in the second inning. Michael Swayne led off with a single and later came home on a sacrifice bunt by Gregory White. Andrew Ramsey hit a single to left field, and Alexander Davie scored from second, beating out the throw to the plate.

The Tigers would answer back in the bottom half of the inning when Robert Jones reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, and scored on an error. Grimes would reach first on the error.

Jones would spark the offense once again, leading off the fourth inning with a single. He would then steal second base, third base, and score on a bunt single by Grimes.

Kentucky State would get a run in the top of the fifth inning scoring on a wild pitch taking the 3-2 lead. Benjamin Schroeder walked and moved around the bases on a pair of wild pitches.

This would be the end of the scoring for the day as Walton and Kentucky State's Matthew Adel shut down the lineups for the rest of the game. Adel went the distance for the Thorobreds. He scattered seven hits and struck out seven. The Tigers stranded eight baserunners in the game, including leaving four runners on third base.

The Tigers travel to Sumter to play Morris College on Monday.
