Albany State Downs Tigers, 15-5

ALBANY, Ga. – Albany State University took the deciding third game of the SIAC baseball series against Benedict, 15-5, on Sunday.

Benedict used four pitchers on the day, with starter David Weber taking the loss after working four innings. The four pitchers combined to give up 11 hits, 12 walks and seven wild pitches.

Benedict scored first in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Weber. After the Golden Rams scored a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game, the Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the second when Lamar Lewis singled to score Andre Collum, who had led off the inning with a walk.

Albany State took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Benedict added another run in the third inning when Weber walked, advanced to third on a double by Lydell Moseby, and came home on a groundout by Collum.

Albany State increased its lead to 9-3 before Benedict scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning on a two-run homer by Moseby to left-centerfield.

The Rams pushed across three more runs in the bottom of the seventh and three more in the eighth to end the game early with a 10-run lead.

The Tigers fell to 20-13 overall and 10-8 in the SIAC. The Golden Rams improve to 17-19 overall and 12-6 in the SIAC.

Benedict has a non-conference home game against Virginia-Lynchburg on Wednesday, before closing out the regular season with a home conference three-game series against rival and East Division-leading Claflin this weekend.
