HAMPTON, Ga. -- The No. 6 seed Paine College Lady Lions stunned the No. 2 seed Benedict College 9-7 to stay alive in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) softball tournament Friday and eliminate the Lady Tigers at Gerald Matthews Complex.
Benedict built a 6-0 after three innings, but then the bats came alive for the Lady Lions as they recorded seven runs in the bottom of the fourth, including a solo home run by Janae Kearse that gave them a 7-6 edge. Paine added two more runs in the sixth inning while holding Benedict to one more run as it closed out the game.
