Lady Tigers Drop Doubleheader At South Carolina State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team dropped a doubleheader to South Carolina State on Friday, losing 15-2 and 5-1.

In the first game, Benedict opened the game with two runs in the first inning. Dee Trottie opened with a walk, then advanced all the way home on three wild pitches by starting S.C. State pitcher Leigha Hite. Vianney Gomez came in to replace Hite, and she struck out the next two Benedict batters, before an error allowed Cecelia Lykes to score.

S.C. State scored eight runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead.

The second game was closer, with S.C. State taking a 1-0 lead in the first, but Benedict tied the game in the second inning as Jasmine Sledge got on after being hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a walk by Victoria Bratton, and came home on an RBI single by LaTayvia Mack.

The game stayed tied 1-1 until the bottom of the fifth, when the Lady Bulldogs added another run to make it 2-1, then got three runs in the sixth as LaTayvia Riley hit a two-run triple.

Benedict drops to 0-5 on the season. They play at Johnson C. Smith on Tuesday.
