Tigers Complete Series Sweep Over Morehouse

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers remained unbeaten and completed a three-game sweep over Morehouse College with a 13-3 victory on Sunday at Tiger Field.

Four Benedict pitchers combined to limit the Maroon Tigers to just four hits. Starting pitcher David Weber went five innings, gave up two hits and struck out six.

Benedict improved to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the SIAC. Morehouse fell to 1-19 overall and 0-3 in the SIAC.

Benedict stole 12 bases, giving them 119 in nine games. Kevin Davis had six stolen bases on Sunday, including stealing home in the third inning.

Daniel Young had an RBI double in the first inning as the Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Benedict scored three runs in the second inning on just one hit and three Morehouse errors.

After Morehouse cut the lead to 5-2 in the top of the fourth inning, Lydell Moseby had a crushing solo home run to left-center field in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it 6-2.

In the fifth inning, Jan Oyola had a sacrifice fly to score Weber, and Kurtis Burnett had an RBI double to score Justin Smalls. The Tigers added two more runs in the sixth as Elisha McDaniel laid down a bunt single to score Davis. Smalls later had a sacrifice fly to score Moseby.

Benedict picked up two more runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Burnett. Dondrell Folk brought in Burnett on a groundout.

The Tigers put the game away in the eighth inning when Willie Colon, pinch-running for Smalls, stole second and third, then came home on a wild pitch.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, hosting Coker at 1 p.m. at Tiger Field.
