Tigers Power Past Lane, 23-6

Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. – Daniel Young blasted two home runs to lead a powerful Benedict offense as the Tigers defeated Lane College 23-6 in an SIAC baseball game on Thursday at Tiger Field.

Young finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs on the day. Lydell Moseby was also 3-for-3 with three RBIs, hitting a single, double and triple on the afternoon.

Christopher Lail pitched the entire game and gave up just one earned run to improve to 5-0 on the season.

The Dragons, 0-10 overall and 0-7 in the SIAC, jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning.

The Tigers, 15-2 overall and 6-1 in the SIAC, exploded with 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Doren Blake hit a two-run single, David Weber had an RBI double. Back-to-back walks with the bases loaded brought home two more runs. Kevin Davis and Moseby had an RBI singles, and Blake had an RBI double, giving him three RBIs in the inning.

Benedict added three more runs in the second inning when Young led off the inning with a solo homer.

Young had a two-run shot in the third inning as the Tigers added five more runs. Moseby added a two-run triple.

Benedict tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning as Young hit a sacrifice fly and Weber scored on a wild pitch.

Benedict had 19 stolen bases on the day.

Benedict and Lane continue the conference series with a doubleheader at noon on Friday.
