Tigers Drop Pair At Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman College, the defending SIAC baseball tournament champions, swept a doubleheader over the Benedict Tigers on Friday.

Stillman took the first game 14-3 and then took the second game 7-5.

The Stillman Tigers pounded out 17 hits off three Benedict pitchers in the first game.

Daniel Young had a two-run homer in the first game, cutting Stillman's lead to 6-3, but Benedict could not get any closer.

In the second game, Stillman jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings before Benedict scored in the fourth when Jan Oyola had an RBI double. Lydell Moseby hit a sacrifice fly in the next inning to make it 4-2. But Stillman added two more runs for a 6-2 lead after five innings. Benedict pushed across two more runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Willie Colon and a sacrifice fly by Jocquese Brunson to make it 6-4. Stillman added another run in the bottom of the sixth. Benedict added a run in the seventh when Kevin Davis doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. The Tigers had two runners on base with one out, but the final two batters struck out as Stillman hung on for the win.

Stillman snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 14-13 overall and 6-2 in the SIAC. Benedict dropped to 17-5 overall and 8-3 in the SIAC.

The two teams wrap up their three-game series on Saturday at 1 p.m. Central Time.
