Tigers Sweep Doubleheader From Morehouse

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Yaniel Delgado struck out 11 in game one, and Benedict stole 16 bases and took advantage of seven Morehouse errors in the second game to sweep an SIAC doubleheader from the Maroon Tigers on Saturday at Tiger Field.

Benedict won the first game 9-1 as Jan Oyola was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and David Weber had a solo home run. Lydell Moseby was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Delgado went six innings, gave up just three hits and walked one to go with his 11 strikeouts to improve to 4-0 on the mound.

The Tigers scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to break away from a 3-3 game and cruised to a 14-4 victory in the second game. Moseby was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Daniel Young also drove in a pair of runs. Christopher Lail (2-0) picked up the win on the mound, going six innings and giving up four hits.

Benedict improved to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the SIAC. Morehouse fell to 1-18 overall and 0-2 in the SIAC.

The Tigers had 22 stolen bases on the day, including four by Willie Colon in the second game.

The two teams wrap up the series on Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m.
