Lady Tigers Split With Clark Atlanta

Asia Benn had three hits and two RBIs in the first game against Clark Atlanta.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of seven Clark Atlanta errors to record a 10-3 victory in the first game of an SIAC softball doubleheader on Friday at King Park. Clark Atlanta pushed across eight runs in the eighth inning to take a 15-7 victory in the second game.

Benedict moved to 3-10 overall and 3-1 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta moved to 6-10 overall and 1-6 in the SIAC.

Benedict opened the first game with two runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Olivia Oxford. After Clark Atlanta scored a run in the second inning, the Lady Tigers added three more runs in the bottom of the second. BerGearia Major doubled and later scored on an error. Cecelia Lykes laid down a sacrifice bunt, and another error brought home Dee Trottie and Kelsey Green.

Benedict made it 7-1 in the third inning with two more runs on a two-run single by Major.

Clark Atlanta added one run in the fourth and fifth innings to make it 7-3. Benedict added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth. Alexandria McColley drew a walk with the bases loaded to score Jasmine Sledge.

The Lady Tigers tacked on two more runs in the sixth on a two-run double by Asia Benn.

Oxford, Major and Asia Benn all went 3-for-4 with two RBIs each in the first game.

In the second game, Benedict fell behind 5-0 in the top of the first inning, but battled back to tie the game at 7-7 when Sledge hit a solo home run.

Clark Atlanta sent 11 batters to the plate in the eighth inning to score eight runs on five hits.

Sledge and McColley both went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the second game.

Benedict's scheduled game against Concordia College on Saturday was cancelled. Benedict will be at the SIAC crossover tournament in Jasper, Ala., next week. The next home game is March 21 against Edward Waters College.
