BerGearia Major had a grand slam and the Lady Tigers snapped a 14-game losing streak with a 19-5 softball victory over Paine College on Thursday at King Park.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was halted in the third inning due to rain.
The Lady Tigers opened the game with eight runs in the first inning as they sent 11 batters to the plate.
Victoria Bratton brought home the first run with an RBI double.
Olivia Oxford brought home two runs with a single. With the bases loaded, Major launched a deep ball over the left field fence to make it 8-0.
Paine scored four runs in the second inning to close the gap to 8-4. But then Benedict pushed across nine more runs in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of three Paine errors in the inning. Oxford brought home a run on a single.
Kelsey Green had a single to bring home another run. Bratton brought home two runs on a single.
Benedict added two more runs in the fourth as Jasmine Sledge hit an RBI double.
Major was 2-for-3 with five RBIs, while Bratton was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Oxford also went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
Benedict improved to 9-27 overall and 7-18 in the SIAC.
Benedict takes on Johnson C. Smith in a non-conference game on Saturday at King Park in their final home game. The doubleheader starts at 2 p.m.
