Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. – Albany State scored seven runs in the first three innings and held on for a 9-4 victory over the Benedict College Tigers in an SIAC baseball game on Saturday at Tiger Field.
The Golden Rams scored four runs in the first inning on four hits and a pair of walks. They added another run in the second inning on a wild pitch.
Benedict put a run on the board in the bottom of the second as
Lashante Grimes hit an RBI double with two outs.
Albany State increased the lead to 7-1 with two runs in the third on an RBI single and another wild pitch.
The score stayed that way until the ninth inning, as Benedict missed out on scoring opportunities in the sixth and eighth inning. The Tigers had the bases loaded and no outs in the sixth and failed to score. Benedict loaded the bases again in the eighth with one out, and couldn't bring anyone home.
Albany State increased the lead to 9-1 in the top of the ninth as Robert Latner had a solo home run, then a Benedict two-base error led to an RBI single.
The Tigers tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth. Jocquse Brunson had a deep sacrifice fly to score
Jan Oyola, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
Kevin Davis also hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field to score
Elisha McDaniel, who had reached on an error.
Lydell Moseby smashed a deep ball over the left field fence, his 10
th homer of the season to make it 9-4.
The Tigers dropped to 22-9 overall and 9-6 in the SIAC. Albany State improved to 15-22 overall and 13-3 in the SIAC.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
