Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team swept a doubleheader over Albany State University on Sunday on Senior Day.

Senior David Weber pitched a complete game in the first game and helped his cause with a solo home run as the Tigers took a 9-4 victory. In the second game, the Tigers exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning and Kurtis Burnett hit a grand slam in the sixth inning for a 13-4 victory.

The Tigers improved to 24-9 overall and 11-6 in the SIAC. Albany State falls to 15-24 overall and 13-5 in the SIAC.

Benedict's other senior, Lydell Moseby, opened the scoring for the Tigers by smashing a double down the left field line to bring home Jocquese Brunson in the first inning of the first game. Moseby scored when Daniel Young hit a single down the right field line.

After the Golden Rams scored a run in the second to cut it to 2-1, the Tigers pushed across five runs in the second inning thanks in large part to three Albany State errors. Moseby hit a sacrifice fly and Weber followed with a solo home run to left-center field.

Albany State scored a single run in the top of the fourth, but the Tigers added to their lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 9-2. Kevin Davis scored on a wild pitch and Doren Blake had an RBI single to score Weber.

Weber scattered seven hits and struck out four to improve to 5-1 on the season.

In the second game, Albany State scored a run in the first inning, and then added another in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. But then the Benedict bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth, as the Tigers sent 10 batters to the plate.

After Moseby led off the inning with a walk, Weber hit a double to left-center field to score Moseby. Weber scored on a single by Young. Blake followed with another RBI single and Lashante Grimes had an RBI double to score Blake. Brunson had an RBI single, and then Kevin Davis hit a deep fly ball to center field that allowed Wilfredo Colon to tag up from third, and Brunson to score from second base, beating the throw to the plate.

Benedict made it 9-2 in the fifth as Elisha McDaniel hit a single to center field to score two runs.

The Golden Rams cut the lead to 9-4 with two runs in the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, with two outs, Kevin Davis singled and Moseby and Weber walked to load the bases. Burnett, who had entered the game the inning before, hit a grand slam to right field for his first homer of the season.

The Tigers are scheduled to face Morris in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. at Tiger Field on Monday, weather permitting.
