Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team dropped a doubleheader to Claflin University on Wednesday.
Claflin won the first game 18-4. In the second game, Claflin scored seven runs in the eighth inning to pull away from a tie game and win 11-4.
The Lady Tigers fell to 8-23 overall, extending their losing streak to 10 games, and 6-14 in the SIAC.
In the second game, Benedict took a 2-1 lead in the second inning as Dee Trottie hit a double to score
Alexandria McColley. Trottie advanced to third on a wild pitch and later scored when
BerGearia Major stole second and Trottie scored on the throw.
Claflin tied the game at 2-2 with one run in the third inning. The Lady Panthers added two more runs in the fifth inning on a Benedict error.
The Lady Tigers tied the game in the fifth inning as
Victoria Bratton led off with a single and scored on a double by Jasmine Sledge. Sledge later scored on a Claflin error.
Benedict had an opportunity to take the lead in the sixth when Sledge hit a single to center field, but
Victoria Bratton was thrown out at home trying to score from second.
In the eighth inning, Claflin scored one run on a passed ball. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases, then Markea Sheppard hit a grand slam.
Benedict stranded 12 runners on the basepaths in the second game.
Claflin pounded out 17 hits in the first game, scoring at least three runs in every inning to take the 18-4 victory in five innings.
