Box Score OZARK, Ala. – Tuskegee scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to break a tie ballgame and defeated Benedict College 6-2 in the opening round of the 2014 SIAC Baseball Championship on Wednesday.

Benedict fell to 19-22 on the season, while Tuskegee improved to 17-19.

The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Mitchell Dixon reached on an error, and Daniel Young followed with a single. Marcelino Irizarry hit an RBI single to right field to score Dixon, and Lashante Grimes hit a single to score Young.

Tuskegee scored its first run in the bottom of the second inning, and tied the game with a run in the third inning.

The game remained tied 2-2 until the seventh. Tuskegee had the bases loaded and one out in the fifth inning, but a pair of fly balls ended the inning without a run scoring. Benedict followed with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the sixth, but failed to push a run across.

Tuskegee started off the seventh inning with a triple by Cameron Duncan, ending the day for starting pitcher Yaniel Delgado. James Roman came in relief and gave up back-to-back RBI singles, a double and a two-run homer by Gene Moody to make it 6-2.

Benedict managed only one hit in the final two innings.

William Buford picked up the win on the mound for Tuskegee, going the distance, scattering six hits and striking out six. Delgado gave up five hits and struck out nine in five innings of work. Roman took the loss.

Benedict falls into the loser's bracket and will face Albany State at 9 a.m. The top-seeded Golden Rams were upset by Kentucky State, 7-5, on Wednesday.
