COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's track & field team brought home two first-place medals at the Columbia International University College Invitational over the weekend.
Shemar Miller won the triple jump event with a personal-best jump of 14.93 meters (48 feet, 11 inches). That distance would have been a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark for the national championship, but CIU did not follow NCAA wind-gauge requirements. Miller also finished second in the long jump with a jump of 6.89 meters (22 feet, 7 ¼ inches).
Bryce Ravenell won the high jump event with a jump of 1.97 meters (6 feet, 3 inches). He also placed eighth in the long jump with a distance of 6.51 meters (21 feet, 4 inches).
Shun Taylor finished fourth in the triple jump with 13.71 meters (44 feet, 11 inches), and sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.65 meters (21 feet, 10 inches).
Joshua Brimmer threw a personal best in the hammer throw with 43.01 meters (141 feet, 1 inch) to finish fourth. He also finished 12th in the discus throw with 37 meters (121 feet, 5 inches).
On the track,
Lirante Jackson finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.18.
Kevin Francis finished fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.61.
Malcom Carter Jr. finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.47. He also finished 10th in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.32.

Benedict will compete Friday and Saturday at the USC Weems Baskin meet.
