COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's track & field team competed at the USC Weems Baskin meet against some of the top SEC and ACC schools over the weekend, and got a NCAA provisional qualifier and set a school record.
Shemar Miller finished sixth overall in the triple jump with a personal best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 15.07 meters (49 feet, 5 inches). He currently ranks second in the country in the triple jump event after this weekend. Miller also finished 10
th in the long jump with a jump of 6.83 meters (22 feet, 5 inches).
The men's 4 x 300-meter relay team of
Shemar Hylton,
Devonta Newbold,
Lirante Jackson and
Josiah Atkins finished third with a new school record time of 2:19.95.
The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Atkins,
Kelvin Tillman, Miller and Jackson finished 10
th with a season-best time of 41.67.
Malcom Carter Jr. finished 10th in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 55.93. He also finished 11th in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.50.
Kevin Francis finished 15th in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.65. He also finished 12th in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 56.86.
Richard McQueen threw a personal best in the javelin throw with a mark of 37.40 meters (122 feet, 8 inches). He also ran a collegiate best in the 110-meter high hurdles with a 15.95, good for 16th place.
Bryce Ravenell placed ninth in the long jump with a personal best of 6.89 meters (22 feet, 7 inches). He also finished eighth in the high jump with a jump of 1.92 meters (6 feet, 3 inches).
Joshua Brimmer finished 11th in the hammer throw with a throw of 41.44 meters (135 feet, 11 inches), to finish fourth. He also finished 12th in the discus throw with a throw of 37 meters (121 feet, 5 inches).
Caleb Vance finished 13th in the hammer throw with a personal best 40.59 meters (133 feet, 2 inches) and discus throw with a throw of 39.83 meters (130 feet, 8 inches).
Corey Witter finished ninth in the javelin throw with a throw of 34.05 meters (111 feet, 8 inches).
Benedict will return to the USC's Creggar Track on April 10 to compete in the USC Open.
