WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Benedict College men's track and field team opened their indoor season at the JDL Early Bird Invitational this weekend, and Shemar Miller jumped a new school indoor record in the triple jump with a mark of 15.29 meters (50 feet 2 inches). He is currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division II standings.
Rajuan Ricketts wasn't too far behind him with a season best jump of 14.79 meters (48 feet 6 inches). He finished second overall and is currently ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II sandings with a provisional mark.
Shun Taylor jumped an indoor personal best of 14.11 meters (46 feet 3.5 inches).
The throwers also did well, led by Chase Ransom and Caleb Vance, who both threw personal bests and the same distance in the weight throw. They both threw 14.30 meters (46 feet 11 inches) and tied for seventh. Ranson also led in the shot put with 13.19 meters (43 feet 3 inches) and finished fifth. Vance finished ninth with a 12.63 meter (41 feet 5 inches).
Kevin Francis ran a time of 8.50 in the 60-meter hurdles just .03 off his personal best. He finished fifth overall in the finals.
Kelvin Tillman ran a personal best of 6.94 in the 60-meter dash and finished fifth overall in the meet.
Javel Best ran a time of 51.05 in the 400 meters and placed fourth overall.
Sadiki Marsh and Devonta Newbold finished fourth and sixth in the 800 meters, respectively. Marsh ran 1:58.11, while Newbold ran 1:59.77.
Nelson Kipkemboi won the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:41.88.
