Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. – Lane College outscored Benedict 12-2 in the final three innings to rally past the Tigers 22-17 in the SIAC  opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Benedict had a 15-10 lead after six innings of play. The Dragons tied the game with five runs in the top of the seventh, and then pulled ahead with four runs in the eighth inning. Benedict scored one run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 19-16. Lane added three more runs in the top of the ninth, and Benedict scored one run in the bottom.

Benedict falls to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in the SIAC. Lane goes to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the SIAC.

Jorge Baez had an RBI double, a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly to drive in four runs on the day. Bradon O'Connor went 5-for-5 with four runs scored, three RBIs and eight stolen bases. The Tigers finished the game with 18 stolen bases as Jamell Mitchell Jr. had four, Ryan Chesney had three, Jalen McDuffie had two and Anthony Makinster had one.

Benedict used eight pitchers in the game. Baez, Benedict's sixth pitcher, took the loss with three hits, three walks and five earned runs in one and a third innings.

The game saw 28 hits, 28 walks, five balks and two home runs. Jordan Smith had a grand slam for the Dragons in the fourth inning.

Benedict and Lane will complete the conference series with a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 10:30 a.m.
