MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Benedict College men's outdoor track & field team finished third out of 26 teams competing at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge, despite running in cold and unfavorable weather.
Lirante Jackson won the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 11:09. Jackson also anchored the men's 4x100-meter relay team, with
Romel Russell,
Kevin Francis,
Shun Taylor, which finished third with a time of 43.94.
Shemar Hylton finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.56.
Romel Russell finished fifth with a season best time of 51.33.
Chase Ransom finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 13.08 meters (43 feet, 11 inches). He also threw a personal best in the hammer throw with a throw of 39.24 meters (129 feet, 1 inches).
Joshua Brimmer threw a personal best in the hammer throw with a throw of 45.35 meters (148 feet, 9 inches) to finish seventh.
Shun Taylor finished ninth in the long jump with a jump of 6.59 meters (21 feet, 7 inches).
Richard McQueen finished 10
th in the long jump with a jump of 6.56 meters (21 feet, 6 inches). He also threw a personal best in the javelin throw with a throw of 40.96 meters (134 feet, 6 inches). He ran a season best time of 16.41 in the 110-meter high hurdles, finishing 11th.
Kevin Francis finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a season best time of 59.45. He also finished 10th in the 110-meter high hurdles with a season best time of 16.22.
Nelson Kipkemboi led the distance runners, clocking a personal best 33:27.32 in the 10,000-meter run to finish fourth. He also ran a personal best in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:26.73.
Ryusei Takahashi ran a personal best in the 10,000-meter run, finishing seventh with a time of 35:29. He also ran a season best in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:38.22.
Japheth Kipruto ran a season best time in the10,000-meter run, finishing eighth with a time of 37:16.25.
Thomas Heilman ran a season best time of 16:59 in the 5,000-meter run.
The Tigers will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the Charlotte 49er Classic.
